Personal Branding

The term personal branding has really caught on in the last few years. With the plethora of YouTubers sharing their lives on camera, there has been a huge surge in interest in blogging and social media.

But what does that mean for the average person, who isn’t chasing instant stardom?

I have a number of clients who blog or vlog, sometimes both. They talk about their lives, sharing tips and skills with their followers.

Whilst they are very capable of producing their own images, they like to have a very strong core set of images that they can use on their own platforms as well as for PR.

Equally, I work with a number of businesses where the business owner is a very focal part of the business.

In this instance, the team want to show the business owner at work. Capturing work in progress, how results are produced and what goes on behind the scenes is a great way to build trust. It shows prospective clients a little of what they can expect from working with you.

The best way to achieve good results from a personal branding shoot, is to prepare.

Make a list of the kind of shots you want to capture on the day.

Here’s a little checklist I like to share:

  • Try on all of your outfits, and make sure you feel confident in them all

  • For women, if we are doing a day shoot start with lighter make up that you can darken or make bolder as the day progresses and the light changes

  • Think about and get out any props you want included in the shoot

  • Identify the lightest rooms in the house/venue – the more natural light we can use the better

  • If shooting outside plan your footwear wisely! If you like heels then make sure there is firm ground for you to stand on.

  • Give yourself time – it’s very easy to underestimate how long a shoot takes. Don’t try to rush or cram in too much in one session. Being able to take a few deep breaths and relax will reflect in more natural and more flattering photographs

Most of my personal branding clients like to do a session once per quarter.

That means we can capture the best of each season, in terms of lighting, what nature has to offer, and different aspects of the client’s business.

I will shortly be launching a full personal branding package, with a monthly subscription service. If this is something you would like to explore please drop me an email and I will add you to the launch list for more info.
