Autumn Branding Shoot

Last Autumn, before we had the second lockdown, I photographed the lovely Aisling from Ruby Rua Holistic Therapies.

Aisling wanted to update the images on her website and for social media.

I always start any project by having a chat with the client first. It’s really important that a client gets everything they want from their shoot, so I find this is the best approach. Knowing what the photos are being used for enables me to ensure I am choosing the right aspects. It helps to understand the client’s style too - some like a formal approach and some want to come across as relaxed and approachable.

By preparing my client it helps them to consider what to wear. If time allows I usually recommend several outfits. Dependent on the light, the location and so on, some colours work better than others.

Aisling decided to use a professional to have her hair and make-up done. This can work really well for branding shoots and headshots - not only does it make you feel thoroughly pampered, but they are skilled at applying make up specifically for photographs.

I often work with the make-up artist Nisha Rajput who I highly recommend. She did a great job of looking after Aisling and really bringing out her features.

Whilst the make-up artist is busy I often take a couple of test shots. It’s also a great chance for me to talk to the client about the outfits they have and what will work best for each location.

Aisling has a real love of oak trees, so we decided to start the shoot at a local park in Reading where there are some beautiful oaks. I have to say oaks are one of my favourites too - the trunks have such gorgeous textures and they really added to the photos.

After the outside shots it was time to return to Aisling’s house. She changed outfits and then we took some shots in her working environment. Aisling is an holistic healer and uses flower essences as part of her therapy. We decided to use some of the essences as props to add different details to the photos.

Having photographs showing you at work helps your clients and prospects to understand more about what it is you really do. It’s the start of their ‘know, like, trust” journey with you.
